High School Project Update

Full Description:

High School Project Update – May 22, 2006 Significant progress is being made on site work. The inner curbing of the track has been installed. The high jump area has been formed. The multipurpose field perimeter drain system is being completed. The field drainage work begins this week. And, the field lighting pole bases were delivered on May 17th and are being installed. The drainage under the baseball field has been completed and final grading of the baseball field is underway. The lacrosse and football practice field are receiving loam. Work on the loop roadway, installation of drain structures in the roadway and parking lots continues. The grading for the tennis courts and softball field is underway and will be completed as space allows with the completion of processing of the various loam mixtures and removal of the tailings and the balance of surplus materials. The touch up painting and other small items are being resolved with cleaning of the gym underway in preparation for the final coat of gym finish which is scheduled for the second week in June. Painting and floor tile work is being completed in the gym, pool, and pre-school areas. The trophy cases brought over from the old high school are out being refinished and when they are returned will be installed along the new corridor along the gymnasium with two flat cases which will house team photos. The tile work on the pool deck has been completed and work on the pool mechanical controls is underway. Punch work on the main academic building continues with some larger items being schedule for after school is out, such as re-doing the treads and risers on the monumental stair. HVAC problems persist despite significant effort by the contractors. As we “cut over” to air conditioning, other issues will surely arise. Weekly HVAC meetings have been scheduled all spring to address these problems. There will be a final commissioning of these systems by an independent third party to insure the Town’s investment is protected. Questions or comments should be addressed to: Edward J. Richardson, Chairman, Permanent Building Committee, ejr@gis.net or to Edward A. Kazanjian, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, ekazanjian@westwood.k12.ma.us.
